Expert care and monitoring of your senior pet’s health

Comprehensive Testing for Senior Pets

As your pet grows older they become more susceptible to certain diseases. By bringing them in for regular senior checkups we can run the proper tests to catch and prevent the onset of diseases. Our comprehensive geriatric testing includes a CBC and urinalysis among other testing.

Senior wellness starts with preventative measures

Preventative Senior Care

It’s much easier to tackle health problems with preventative methods than managing a disease after it has already set in. Bring your senior pet in for a wellness exam specially designed for their age group to ensure no hidden illnesses are lurking.

What you need to know about senior pet care

What are the common health concerns for senior pets?

Senior pets are more likely than their younger counterparts to develop cancer, heart disease, arthritis, liver disease, urinary tract disease, diabetes, and other health problems.

How old is my pet in ‘human years’?

Cats and dogs have slight variations when converting their ages to the human equivalent. Pet size and breed also has an effect on the human age of your pet. But on average, by the time cats are 7 years old they are the equivalent of 54 human years. By the time dogs are 7 years old, they are roughly 47 to 50 human years old. This is why we recommend animals at 7 years old and older begin senior wellness plans.

What are some tips for caring for your senior pet?

Learn the warning signs of diseases associated with older pets. If your pet begins to exhibit any symptoms seek veterinary care immediately to address any health problems before they progress.

What are the key considerations when maintaining the health of a senior pet?

As your pet ages you should increase the frequency and intensity of veterinary care. You’ll also need to consider adjusting their diet to accommodate their senior needs and handle any weight concerns. Proper exercise will also help your pet’s mobility and health as they grow older.

Healthy mouth, healthy pet

Senior Dental Procedures

Dental problems can lead to, or at the very least indicate, other health problems for your pet. This is why we recommend owners of senior animals schedule their pets for regular teeth cleanings. Our veterinarian can advise you on how often a professional cleaning will be necessary and other measures you can take to keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy.
